Sending gifts in the post has become ever more popular recently. What better way to celebrate special occasions or let loved ones know you’re thinking of them? This is even more important during the current ongoing pandemic, when we may be unable to see our family and friends in person. There are lots of companies from which you can buy gift sets which will fit through a letterbox. But if you fancy being extra thoughtful and really letting someone know how special they are to you, why not make your own? In this post I’m going to be sharing how you can create your very own DIY letterbox gift set for a loved one.

When to send a letterbox gift set
There are so many special occasions or celebrations for which a letterbox gift would be perfect. Here are just a few:
- Birthday
- New mum/mum-to-be
- Wedding
- Bereavement/loss
Or you might send one simply to let someone know you are thinking of them, to cheer them up if they’re stressed or because they just deserve a treat 🙂
Theme ideas
Why not theme your gift box around an interest of your loved one? Or something that’s important to them.

To create your own DIY letterbox gift set, you will need:
- Large letter sized postal box
- Packing tape
- Packing material – shredded paper/tissue paper/bubble wrap
- Twine (optional)
- Stickers/notecards (optional)
How to personalise your DIY letterbox gift set
You want your loved one to know your letterbox gift set is from you! There are lots of ways in which you can personalise it to make it instantly recognisable as being from you.
Notecards
Write a note to say who the gift box is from and why you’re sending it. You can buy cool notecards in all sorts of designs from shops like Paperchase, or you could even create your own. Using SVG files is a great way to do this, and you could tailor it to whatever the theme of your box is. For example, if you were sending an outdoorsy/nature-themed gift set, you could use a mountain SVG and create a really unique design.
Stickers
Use some cute stickers to fasten any tissue paper wrapping or even on the actual box. Personally, being rainbow-obsessed as I am, I would definitely use some lovely rainbow stickers. Again, you can buy stickers in any theme you like, or make your own if you prefer. These rainbow SVG files are super cute 🙂
Ribbon
Another easy way to personalise your DIY letterbox gift set is to use coloured or patterned ribbon to tie a bow around the contents.
What to put inside your DIY letterbox gift set
There are endless options for what you could put inside your gift set! Obviously it will depend hugely on who the recipient is and what their interests are. And whether you have chosen a theme for your gift box. So that’s down to you to tailor the contents as much as possible.
But here are some excellent and pretty universal ideas to get you started. These could be easily adapted to suit the theme of your box, if you have one.
- Bath bomb
- Chocolates/sweets
- Scented candles/tealights
- Hot chocolate bomb
- Journal/notebook
- Jewellery
- Biscuits/mini treat bags of popcorn/brownie bites etc
- Mini Prosecco/wine bottle
- Gin/whisky miniatures
- Soap
- Motivational pin/badge
- Stationery
- Small ornaments
- Gift experience voucher

Great ideas. We did something similar to send to my brother’s children not too long ago. Its been forever since we’ve seen them but at least I kept my kid busy on a rainy day and she was able to let her cousins know she was thinking about them #KCACOLS
