how to revitalise your property

How to revitalise your property:

New Kitchen

Firstly, you might want to consider having a new kitchen added to your home. On average, a new kitchen costs somewhere between £3,000 and £8,000. That said, some may cost less while high-end large kitchen projects can cost £10,000 or more.

This may involve significantly refurbishing your existing kitchen. Alternatively, you may want to have your kitchen expanded. This might involve adding an extension to the rear of your home or having professionals knock down a wall between the kitchen and another space (if suitable).

If considering the latter approach, just make sure that the right qualified professional(s) are involved as knocking down a wall requires expertise. Also, it may even involve having an RSJ beam installed. This (along with a suitable installer) will require the work of a structural engineer to determine the beam needed and how to adhere to Building Regulations.

Having a kitchen refurbished may involve the following:

  • Having your worktops replaced or even just enhanced instead (e.g. worktop resurfacing where suitable).
  • Updating your kitchen with a new backsplash or countertop made of modern materials like stone veneer, ceramic tiles, glass mosaic, or combining some of them. For instance, pairing a backsplash with natural stone veneer Canada and a quartz countertop can create a stunning visual contrast, blending rustic charm with modern elegance. This combination is particularly popular, where homeowners appreciate the durability and aesthetic appeal of these materials.
  • Replacing existing appliances with new, sleeker and more modern products (e.g. a new hi-tech microwave, digital fridge etc.).
  • Having new flooring installed (e.g., vinyl and laminate floors are popular choices for kitchen spaces).
  • Replacing your cupboards with new, modern alternatives.
  • Opting for a new kitchen design that has a specific look or colour theme to it. This can provide a striking environment with a total new lease of life.

To expand on the option of a new flooring installation, you could add a new type of flooring or opt for the same type depending on your preferences. It’s important to consider a well-suited material (e.g. one that is easy to clean, durable or/and water resistant). Additionally, think about the design and how its aesthetic may look within the visual context of your new kitchen.

For instance, ceramic tiles are versatile, meaning that they are a good match for many kitchen designs. That said, other types of flooring may not work as well with certain kitchen looks.

House Extension

The average cost of a house extension in the UK is priced at somewhere in the region of £30,000 to £120,000. Obviously, this will depend on various key factors, including the size and type of house extension as well as the materials used.

A house extension can not only introduce fresh space to your property but potentially increase its value. Among the most common uses of house extensions include a home office, kitchen extension and to create a garden room.

Bathroom Renovation

A bathroom renovation is another way to take what exists and revitalise it to introduce a new theme, feel and look to your property.

With a new bathroom, you can replace old and worn-down features with new, glossy alternatives. Moreover, you may want to swap out your existing shower for a standout alternative (e.g. power shower or digital shower).

Alternatively, replacing your bathroom with a wet room is a great way to create an open, calming and fully waterproofed substitute.

Driveway Installation

Adding a driveway to the front of a property can introduce a well-designed, aesthetically appealing and practical entryway. Aside from its initial value, a driveway can also potentially increase the value of a property.

The most common options include concrete, tarmac (a.k.a. asphalt), gravel, resin bound and block paver drives. Naturally, each comes with their own pros and cons you’ll want to consider based on your budget, needs and preferences.

Landscaping

Last but certainly not least, landscaping is the process of refurbishing outdoor spaces in an effort to improve their look and feel. Landscaping can involve simple touch-ups (e.g. planting new flowers or trimming hedges). Or it can mean substantial overhauling projects. This may involve adding paths, a patio or deck or/and large water features throughout your garden space(s). Whatever the case, landscaping is another great way to revitalise your property!
