So last week was our second week of home learning. (I’m loathe to call it homeschooling – somehow I don’t feel it’s quite the same thing!) It’s still going really well. The twiglets’ behaviour is so much easier to manage when we have a bit of structure to our days. As a parent, I’ve never really been one for strict routines but right now it definitely feels right for us! H is so much more unsettled and difficult at the weekends when he has more freedom. I think I might have to keep it going through the Easter holidays at this rate!
The home learning is still pretty gentle though I think. Lots of short activities, mostly set by their school teachers but others added by me. Lots from Twinkl to be fair – as a teacher I already knew that website was amazing, but holy crap how useful is it now?!! There are also loads of blogs with amazing ideas of activities, such as this post by Kiddy Charts 🙂
Anyway we’re doing lots of arts and crafts – probably more in the last two weeks than I’ve ever done with them in their lives! 😀 Lots of garden play and mini workouts indoors. H isn’t a Joe Wicks fan which is a shame – he prefers more interactive things I think. They’re both still loving Cosmic Kids Yoga, and Go Noodle is good for dance routines.
So far, lockdown and social distancing has been going pretty ok. In fact, in a lot of ways I’m quite enjoying it. We’re missing seeing my mum and sister and all the twiglets’ classmates, but thank goodness for House Party and Zoom! So funny that just a few short weeks ago, most of us had never heard of any of these apps and now they’re flipping lifelines!
Anyway, that’s us for now! Hoping we get the glorious sunshine back or I have a feeling it’s all going to seem a bit harder very soon!
Thanks for reading! Til next time,
