Now let’s be completely honest here, my food photography skills are not top notch. And that’s probably a vast understatement. I’ve been umming and aahing for ages about backdrops to try to up my game, but never quite got round to investing in any. So when the Paper Bag Co got in touch and offered to send me a Foodie Bag, I jumped at the chance! I was so intrigued to find out more. A bag that has all the essentials for you to create fabulous food photos? Yes please! So here’s how I got on…

My thoughts

I think this is such a great product for anyone who wants to take their food photography up a notch. And even for people like me for whom food photography is not really their forte!

I LOVE the backdrops. Usually before taking photos, I’m messing about with bits of card or paper, or frantically hoovering the wooden floor to put a flatlay on it. So it’s fab to have proper backdrops to use! They definitely make photos look way more professional.

I really love the reflector and have been amazed at the difference it makes to my photos on a cloudy day! It just takes out the harsh shadows and gives a much nicer glow. There is a silver or a gold side, depending on how much warmth you want to add to your photos.

I tend to take all my photos using my D-SLR camera as my phone camera is pretty rubbish. But even so, a lot of the tips on the postcards are still relevant and actually really helpful anyway. I especially like the hints on finding the best light and how to position a reflector effectively.

Are there any downsides?

The only slight downside is that the backdrops aren’t huge. They’re A2 size, which sounds big but if you wanted to do a sizeable flatlay, you would struggle to fit it in.

For smaller flatlays and close-ups they’re absolutely perfect though 🙂 As you can see below, I fitted in a pretty decent sized Easter flatlay with no problems 🙂

I bought some backdrops last year but still haven’t got around to using them! Things seem like such a rush now that I’m working but I would love to spend time working on my photography skills. Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories

  5. What a great idea! However, I don’t think I would want to spend that much on something I would probably not use much #MischiefandMemories
