Last week started off pretty uneventfully and quietly, with more back to school prep and just taking it easy in advance of the craziness of the new year. And then on Thursday, H and C had their first day of Year 1!
From Reception to Year 1
I can’t believe my little babies are in Year 1! It’s a little sad, as I can’t help but feel they were robbed of a large portion of their Reception year. It also makes me worry slightly, as it’s such an important year for setting the learning foundations and so on.
Year 1 is a big jump up from Reception anyway, with a more formal style of learning and fewer play opportunities. But hopefully the twigs will be fine and will adapt well.
Back to school excitement
They were VERY excited to go back to school. After lockdown and home learning and such a long long time living in each other’s pockets not seeing many other children, they were definitely ready! In fact, they skipped in with barely even a backwards glance at me, never mind a goodbye! I would always much rather that than them having to be peeled off me crying and screaming though!!
Doorstep photos
So my Living Arrows photos this week are of course their first day of Year 1 doorstep photos. I love taking these and seeing the comparison each year. It’s actually crazy how much C has grown in the past year! They both look so much more grown up and less toddler-like.

Trying to glean information from the twigs about school has been like getting blood out of a stone as usual! But they both seem really happy and were excited to go back again this morning. So I take it that means it’s all going well!
Thanks so much for reading, and I hope going back to school has gone really well for your family too!
Til next time,
Hannah xx

So grown up I hope they get the chance to still learn through play as they missed so much of Reception. Teddy has gone from shared areas in year one to just desks and isn’t happy about it! #livingarrows x
