Last week was the final week of homeschooling for a lot of people. (Well, hopefully anyway!) Next week will bring the beginning of a return towards normality. I don’t know about anyone else but I’m finding I have pretty mixed emotions about it all at the moment!

I wrote a post towards the end of the first lockdown, about how I was feeling anxious about lockdown ending. It seemed to resonate with quite a few people. And I’m finding myself feeling quite similar this time.

Looking forward to normality

Obviously I am really REALLY looking forward to some kind of normality returning. I haven’t hugged my mum for a year now, and neither have the twiglets which is so rubbish. It will be amazing to eventually be able to have physical contact with loved ones again.

And of course it will also be lovely to be able to go out with friends again. Not that I did that a huge amount (helloooo hermit!) but having the option again will be nice! 🙂

This has all been going on for so long now. I just can’t believe that it’s been a year since the first lockdown was announced – crazy! But because it’s been so long now, I think that makes it extra important that we get it right this time. I don’t think many people could cope with the idea of going back into lockdown again after this.

Feeling nervous

So it does make me a little nervous as to whether the ‘roadmap’ (anyone else already sick to death of that word?!) out of lockdown is a bit ambitious. Is it too sudden to be opening all schools to all pupils straightaway? It’s hard to say. And so many pupils will have been struggling in lockdown – we certainly were! And we were so lucky the twiglets got to go back to school a few weeks ago.

Another reason I’m nervous is because I’m not sure how C will deal with it. School refusal has always been an issue but recently it has been much more frequent. And I think being in a smaller group with a more relaxed routine has been good for her. So I’m a little anxious about how she will be being back in a class of 30 with the normal timetable again. But we’ll just have to see I guess!

I’m also wondering if I will have completely forgotten how to be sociable! I’m naturally quite a shy person anyway. But having had so little social contact recently, I’m finding I struggle to even hold a conversation when I do need to!

Mixed emotions

Anyway, basically I’m excited and apprehensive at the same time. Anyone else got mixed emotions about it all too?

This week’s Living Arrows photo is from a walk to our local park (surprise surprise haha!) It was taken on the hubby’s new iPhone. My phone camera is sooo rubbish so I’m quite jealous!

      Thank you, you too 🙂

  2. Beautiful photo of your children in the park. I have mixed emotions about the children going back to school too. It is good to have some kind of normality again but like you, I’m a little apprehensive about the roadmap and things moving too quickly. Hope that C copes well with all the children being back in her class again. #MMBC

Aw thank you. I hope the first few days have gone well x

  3. I relate so much to all you’ve said. I’m looking forward to seeing family but as a shy person I’m also struggling to adjust to getting back out there. I think lots of people will have lost a lot of social confidence during this time.

Yes, I feel nervous doing things that used to be so normal, like going to the post office or supermarket. Never mind actual social situations eek!

  4. I am feeling pretty mixed about the return to school. I was excited for my girl, she can see her friends again and I don’t have to have the daily battles with her about home learning but I am feeling nervous too. I hope the return to school goes OK. x

Oh that’s good about the vaccines! Thank you, this week has been going well so far. Hope it has for you too x

  6. I’ve had all the emotions over the last few weeks and this week especially has been off the scale. Life at the moment is just so different, so uncertain. Our kids have had a good week at school though so that feels like the main thing x

Yep absolutely this. And same here with a (mostly) good week at school – certainly grateful for that 🙂 x

  7. I have struggled with getting to grips with the first week being back to school. Our emotions have been all over the place! Hope your week went well? X
