We’ve been doing a LOT of crafting lately, what with most of our time being spent at home. You may well know by now that crafting does not come very naturally to me! So I am always in search of ways to make crafting with the twiglets easier. Therefore I was thrilled when toucanBox got in touch and offered to send us one of their readymade craft kits to try. So here is my toucanBox craft kit review ð

About toucanBox
toucanBox offer a flexible craft box subscription service for 3-8 year olds, to unleash children’s creativity in a fun, hands-on way.

Ordering our toucanBox craft kit
Choosing the craft activities
Ordering a toucanBox craft kit is so quick and simple. You start by choosing which two craft activities you would like. For each activity, there is a clear description of what the activity entails, which skills it develops and an age range for which the activity is suitable.
I chose the Dreamcatcher and the Mini Greenhouse activities. I knew the twigs would love painting and decorating a colourful dreamcatcher. And I’ve been very conscious over lockdown of not having done much gardening with the twiglets, as I’ve seen others doing loads. (My gardening abilities are even worse than my crafting skills!!) So I thought this would be a fun (and manageable!) way of doing some gardening with them.
Subscription options
There are four different subscription options, ranging in price. The most popular is the 3-month option which costs ÂĢ7.95 per month plus P&P. But the best value is the 12-month option which costs ÂĢ5.95 per month plus P&P. I really like the fact you can cancel your subscription at any time – you’re not tied in to anything.
You can also purchase a craft box subscription as a gift for someone else – again, there are various options to choose from.
* Make sure you check out the link at the bottom of this post to get 50% off your first toucanBox craft kit! *
One-off boxes
You can also buy a one-off themed box for ÂĢ12. (This shows you how much of a saving you make on each box if you purchase a subscription!) There are lots of themes to choose from. including space explorers, outdoor adventure and under the sea.
What’s inside a toucanBox craft kit?
The craft box comes with all the materials you need for each of the two activities you’ve chosen. As well as everything for the two crafts, toucanBox kits also contain a little magazine full of activities, some colourful stickers and a surprise collectable.
Receiving our toucanBox

The boxes are flat and can fit through the letterbox. I love that they arrive personalised for the child (or children!) It definitely added to the twiglets’ excitement when they received it.
The twigs loved the surprise collectable – we received a toucanBox fridge magnet. All the materials for the two activities were packaged neatly and separately from each other so it was really clear, with instruction booklets.

Dreamcatcher activity

The twiglets really enjoyed the dreamcatcher activity. They loved painting the wooden dreamcatcher – obviously they painted it rainbow! ð

We left the paint to dry and came back to our dreamcatcher the next day to finish it off. Threading the string to make the pattern on the front was a little more tricky for the twigs. They persevered and did so well – they really enjoyed it.
They loved threading the beads on. I had to attach the feathers on for them and tie all the knots, but I was super impressed with how much they managed to do independently. I’m sure it must have been a great activity for their fine motor skills!

I think the finished dreamcatcher looks pretty awesome! The twiglets are very proud of it and couldn’t wait to hang it up in their bedroom to ward off bad dreams ð

Mini greenhouse activity
The mini greenhouse activity was so lovely! I really enjoyed doing this with the twiglets, and they had a great time too ð And it just so happened that their home learning topic for the week was ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ so growing their own plants fitted perfectly!

The twiglets were able to do most of this activity by themselves, which was great. They started by slotting the wooden pieces together to build the greenhouse.

Then they had to soak the soil pellets in water, before writing out the labels for the seeds.
Once all the soil was in the container, it was time to get planting!

Finally, it was just the finishing touches left – adding stickers to decorate the greenhouse! (A very serious business, as you can see!)

And then we were all done! Time to water and wait…

Within about five days, the sunflowers were growing at a crazy rate, the basil was starting to have little shoots poking up and the nasturtium were growing some roots under the soil. The twiglets were so excited watering the seeds each day and observing how they were growing. They really enjoyed filling in the little greenhouse journal which came with the activity.

Very soon we’ll be thinking about repotting some of the plants – let’s see if we can keep them alive better than most of our other plants!! This was such an enjoyable activity and the twiglets learned so much.

Iâve seen adverts on FB for Toucan boxes and was quite intrigued at what was in them. My son is a bit too young as heâs only 2 but will give them a try once heâs older. As both him and myself love to craft. Your Twiglets have done a fantastic job with their greenhouse and dream catcher. #mmbc
