The other week we were lucky enough to have a family photoshoot with local photographer Amelia Johnson. We were kindly gifted the shoot in exchange for some promotion on social media. But we had such a lovely time and I was so impressed that I thought I’d write a little review post on here too. Hopefully this may be useful for anyone looking for someone specialising in family photography in Surrey π
About Amelia Johnson Family Photography
Amelia Johnson has been a photographer for 10 years, working in Dubai, South Africa and Mexico. She recently moved to Surrey and has relaunched her business here. Amelia specialises in family, baby and maternity photography, and says her main aim is to capture the fun, laughter and warmth of families.
Amelia’s family photography business covers Surrey and South West London. Popular locations for photoshoots include Bushy Park, Nonsuch Park, Morden Hall Park, Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common.
Packages and pricing
Amelia offers a Gold package for families which costs Β£295. This consists of a 60-90 minute outdoor session in a location of your choice.
She also offers a Platinum package for Β£350. This is a 2-hour indoor session at your home with your newborn.
Both packages include 50+ high-resolution images to be received within 2 weeks of the photoshoot.
Before the photoshoot
Before our photoshoot, we filled out a booking form. This gave us the opportunity to list any particular shots we really wanted to get. And we could also fill in any information about the children that might be helpful for Amelia to know.
Our family photoshoot with Amelia
Easygoing and relaxed
We had our photoshoot in Nonsuch Park in Surrey. As soon as we met Amelia, she put us at ease, as she was so friendly and easy to talk to. The twiglets warmed to her immediately and chatted away to her as if they’d known her for ages!
Natural and unobtrusive
Amelia’s style is very natural and unobtrusive. We started off at some logs, so the twiglets could play. She took some lovely, candid shots of them just messing around.
Lovely photos of the parents
While the twigs were busy climbing, Amelia took some photos of the other half and me. I mean, we were properly awkward as a*se! But she still somehow managed to get some lovely shots. These days it’s a rarity to have photos of just us, so it was a really nice treat.
Captures children’s personalities
I love how Amelia captured the twiglets’ personalities so well. You can see exactly how cheeky they are from the photos!
Amazing with children
The thing I was most impressed by was how brilliant Amelia was with the twiglets. On the booking form beforehand, I had warned her that they can be rather uncooperative at times! But the whole shoot just felt so easygoing and chilled, and very much led by the twiglets and what they were happiest doing.
At one point, they did both start to get a bit grumpy and the whingy snack demands started. Neither myself or Daddy could really snap them out of it and I thought our time was up!
But Amelia gave them some little challenges to do, and somehow managed to get them both up off the floor, engaged and having fun again!
So if you’re worried about booking a family photoshoot in case your kids don’t cooperate, don’t worry! Amelia will have them eating out of her hands! (Not literally haha!)
A mix of candid and posed family photos
Amelia captured lots of special, candid moments of us all. I love these natural photos so much!
She also took some lovely posed pictures of us too, where she gave us some more direction. She was really clear and was even able to get the twiglets smiling and looking at the camera, which is nothing short of a miracle to be quite honest!
We had such a lovely morning with Amelia. The twiglets had a great time and I’m so pleased with how the photos turned out. If you’re looking for someone who can offer amazing family photography in Surrey, I would highly recommend Amelia Johnson π
