Coding is such an important skill for children to learn these days. We were lucky enough to be sent some fab toys from Learning Resources to help teach the twiglets some simple coding. If you’re interested in coding for kids, read on to find out how Coding Critters can help!

Coding Critters

We’re huge fans of Learning Resources. They make such great educational and fun toys for children. The twiglets love their primary science toys and play with them all the time.
So they were super excited to receive their Coding Critters bunny Bopper and her friends Hip and Hop. We were also sent an additional Pair-A-Pets set with two extra friends, Fluffy and Buffy.

So the main set consists of Bopper the bunny, her two bunny friends Hip and Hop, a wheelbarrow, a carrot, a house with a little swing, a tree stump, a cardboard tree and bush with stands, a coding storybook and ten coding cards.

Coding Critters are aimed at 4-10 year olds, and are designed to help teach young children early coding concepts. Also, they help to develop STEM thinking, including problem-solving and understanding cause and effect.
How do Coding Critters work?
Using the storybook, children follow the instructions and complete simple coding challenges to take Bopper on adventures. They use the directional arrows on Bopper’s back to programme a sequence of up to 30 steps.
The twiglets absolutely loved programming Bopper then watching her move. Also, there are fun challenges to complete, like leading the bunny to pick up her carrot, or to pull along Hip and Hop in her wheelbarrow.

In addition, Bopper can be used as a fun interactive pet. You just press the Play button on her nose to switch to Play mode. She then dances and spins around.

The twigs absolutely love Bopper and have played with her for hours. They love making up their own sequences to try and lead her to places. Coding Critters offer great opportunities for imaginative play too. H and C have been inventing their own little stories using all the characters.
I would thoroughly recommend Learning Resources Coding Critters as a fab toy to introduce early coding for kids. I really hope this review has been useful! As always, thanks so much for reading!
Til next time,
Hannah xx
